What Is The Sportrock Performance Institute?
The Sportrock Performance Institute is the performance home for our climbing community. It's a purpose-built space inside Sportrock Alexandria where climbers come to train, not just climb.
It exists to give our community what other gyms don't: a room designed around progression. Coaches and USA Climbing-certified routesetters work together to set climbs that teach and develop valuable climbing skills.
About
The SRPI
01
Lower Density
Fewer climbs per section, by design. This gives our routesetters room to work with bigger holds, larger volumes, and produce more thought-provoking climbs. The result: a gym full of boulders that demand full-body engagement, balance, and coordination, and reward movement learned through practice.

02
No Grades Here, Just Circuits
Grades can be useful, but they can also get in the way. At the SRPI, boulders are organized into four color-coded circuits based on skills, rather than a number. We chose this route (pun intended) because we believe gains come from exploring movement, not chasing a number. The result is a climber who understand why they're improving, and not just that they are.
03
A Place to Improve for Everyone
SRPI is a performance institute built for climbers who want to get better, at every level. Beginners learn the right habits from the start. Intermediate climbers break through plateaus. Advanced climbers refine technique and push into new terrain. Elite athletes train here too, but the space is built around a simple belief: climbing is a skill worth learning, and we're here to make it approachable at every level. From intro classes to expert-level routesetting workshops, SRPI gives every climber a clear path forward.

Why Is The
SRPI Special?
01
Boulders Informed by Coaches and Set by Experts
Every boulder at SRPI is built to teach. Our setters are among the most USA Climbing certified in the country, and that expertise is sharpened by ongoing coaching feedback. Our coaches and setters work together to develop specific skills through the boulders, whether that's precise footwork, efficient movement, or strength in the right places.

02

Climbing and Training, Together
The SRPI is built so climbing and training aren't separate activities. The walls offer a full range of angles, from steep overhangs to technical slabs, giving climbers variety to develop well-rounded movement. And the training tools are not far away. A campus board, spray wall, free weights, and the Kilter Board room are all integrated into the space, so switching between climbing and targeted training takes seconds, not trips across the gym.
03
Not Just A Space, But A Community
Getting better at climbing isn't a solo pursuit. The SRPI community shows up for each other, whether that's offering beta on a tough move, encouraging a first-time send, or training through a plateau together. Programs like the SRPI Climbing League, a team bouldering series, and regular workshops are built to strengthen those connections, giving members more ways to learn alongside the people around them.
