How to De-Stress

The ability to stay mentally strong in the midst of stressful circumstances is a superpower that we all harness within. It is during these times that we grow and learn the most about ourselves. We tend to strain our minds with matters outside of our control, and when has that ever done bought you peace? What it actually does, is invite negativity to sit and ruminate, lessening your productivity, taking away from your happiness, and shockingly weakens your immune system.

It is a known fact that saying do not stress over something is always easier said than done, and setbacks are inevitable, but devote your efforts to what you can do to move forward. Even when we cannot change that stressful situation, we have the power to take steps to improve our mentality. The first step, acknowledgment, recognize all the tasks you do from dawn to dusk, are a choice and find that silver lining. Taking a hard look at ourselves from time to time is essential. Self-reflection welcomes our better and stronger selves to develop. So, falling into the next stressful circumstance, you will recognize how to handle it with a wiser approach without risking the state of your mental health.

How many times in your life have you thought to yourself there aren’t enough hours in the day?  A number of us have extra time on our hands than ever before, and we would be a fool to not take advantage. Find those manual labor tasks you have been putting off, start a new at-home workout routine, organize your life, read a book you have been wanting to read, or virtually connect with people you have lost contact with. Take a moment with your thoughts to jot down what you want to accomplish.

The body’s response to high-stress levels can result in the body producing added mental tension, leaving the mind and body to amplify each other’s distress signals. This can create a vicious cycle that needs to be broken. A great way to break that toxic cycle is to write down a to-do list and follow through with it it. A helpful tip to staying motivated to your list is to always include some sort of exercise. Physical activity generates endorphins, which are chemicals in the brain that help reduce stress. The act of exercise has a few unique abilities; provides stimulation to calm us down, to exhilarate us, to counter depression and dissipate anxiety.
