Our story began in the late 1980s when a passionate group of local climbers transformed Steve Zich’s small Washington, DC single car garage into a vibrant hub for climbing and training.
The vision grew and in 1994 this same group of local climbers established Sportrock’s first gym location in Rockville, MD. Today, we proudly operate three expansive locations within the DMV area, offering over 100,000 square feet of diverse climbing terrain, from route walls over 65’ high at Alexandria, to the lead arch at Sterling, to the boulders emerging out of a swimming pool at Rio. As one of the pioneering indoor rock climbing gyms in the nation, we have consistently redefined our facilities to deliver an extraordinary climbing experience.
